    I’m sorry… but …
    I’m sorry… but this is so stupid that they fake the aging of the guitar. There’s nothing cool about faking as if your guitar has been played for so many years when in reality it’s actually brand new. It reminds me of when people take the bill of a baseball hat and rough it up to make it look like they’ve worn the hat over time… it’s so stupid and pointless. The primary function of a guitar is to help you to create music… don’t forget that!

    @ProGuitarShopDemos wow great response I’ve always wondered why they did that as well I always assumed that people just liked the way they looked end of story, but its interesting to see that there is a deeper meaning to it

    i heard the relic was born when fender suppiied the rolling stones equipment for a tour . kieth richards looked at the brand new guitars and said – i can’t be holding these, you have to bash them up a bit. ?

    Simulated …
    Simulated weathering is something I would never do, I’d rather buy a normal good condition Strat, keep it and let years of constant use do the weathering for me, that way its all genuine, it’ll be more like a family member than a guitar and you’ll probably have a story behind every bump and scrape. ;)

    I have to say that …
    I have to say that these “vintage” “relic” or what ever are very good! They sound much better than the normal versions ! the sound is more “opened” because of the Relic Finish… Really ! I bought an Fender CS ’60 Heavy Relic Strat HSS RW and I love 2800Euro is not sheap but “wow” ! I love it! Ok the finish looks a little bit scary but who can affort the money for a reall relic Strat from the 60?
    So you have to play one before you can say anything here ok….

    I wonder how they get the beltbuckle rash right… is there some dude in the custom shop whos duty it is to constantly rub the guitars over his crotch?

  21. corganb 16. Oct, 2011 at 9:50 am #

    Ok, Relic guitars …
    Ok, Relic guitars can be cool – but doesn’t this seem crazy at times? I mean wow “look at the belt buckle dents and rust on the bridge”. When will guitar pedals be made with authentic shoe scrapes and beer stains?

    love it! but what’s …
    love it! but what’s with the bit about “…which comes through years of adjusting the saddles…”??
    I really like the concept but if the wear isn’t in the places where a strat would get damaged, it looks ridiculous and not authentic.
    I have an ’80′s Squier ’57 JV (Jap strat) body, which I bought new as a complete guitar (still have the pickups in a box somewhere too) and it’s bashed in all the ‘right’ places and I can tell you stories about each scrape. Buy a new one and wear it out yourself!

    @corganb
    I saw a Fender Blues Junior relic. The grille cloth was torn and worn out, it had what looked like a urine stain on the side, a ring from a cold beer can on the top, and various stains and dings all around.
